I'm loving my new fitness programmes (although my right calf does feel like it's going to explode after today's session!) What I'm really missing though are exercises targetted at the tummy and waistline. Whilst I guess general cardio exercises will boost my metabolic rate and fat burning and will help, I'd like to think I can do something to tone the underlying muscles. What's best - either with or with out the Wii balance board.|||I only just picked up Sports Active so haven't tried it out yet, but from what I've read on the forum, there aren't really great exercises that focus on the tummy.
My understanding is that there will be a release this December (I presume it can be purchased separately) that focuses on core/ab moves. In the meantime, if you have wii fit, you may want to add on a couple of the core exercises/yoga poses into your routine -- or maybe just pick an abs routine from a magazine or website (like shape.com or selfmag.com). I think I may have to do something like that myself, since I have a bit of extra tummy that needs some attention.|||The overall workouts, cardio and resistance training, will help to burn the fat off of your trouble spots. Unfortunately, you can do crunches and ab exercises every day but that won't remove the fat from your tummy. Doing ab exercises helps to bump up your metabolism but mainly strengthens and builds the abdominal muscles. A balanced, clean diet combined with cardio and resistance training will help to turn your body into a fat burning furnace and help to eliminate abdominal fat. 80% of success for removing abdominal fat and flattening your tummy or getting the 6-pack look depends on your diet. You can't spot burn fat, so you have to take an overall approach to it. If you want, before or after your workout, do some abdominal exercises, such as crunches, knee ins, planks, etc. that target your core. Pick about 5-7 different exercises for the abs and do about 3 sets of 10-15 reps, every other day in addition to cardio, weight training and a proper diet. The good thing is, Wii Active makes it fun to work out and you can even customize workouts using your favorite exercises from the lists. I too would like to see more emphasis on core because the core muscles are the most vital to helping you maintain stability and help with your posture. Good luck!|||There are some great videos of abdominal exercises on you tube. Search "sparkpeople" and you'll find a large library of fitness videos.|||I'm on my second week of using EA Sports Active for the Wii. There doesn't seem to be many (if any exercises for the tummy/ab area.
I suggest either doing crunches on your own... or I got a sports-hoop. It is a weighted hula-hoop. Mine is five-pounds, but you can find the right size for you (and purchase) on their website. http://www.sports-hoop.com/
The sports hoop is much more fun than doing traditional ab exercises.
