Hi all,
My first day here and on Active so thought I'd record some details which I can update throughout my experience with Active.
Male - 29 - 6" (183cm)
Starting Weight : 91kg (14.3 Stone)
Starting BMI : 28.1
Desired Weight : 77kg (12.2 Stone)
Desired BMI : 21.5
Wish me luck
|||My 1st day too. Good Luck.|||Workout 1
Projected Calories : 150.4
Actual Calories : 172.2
Burn Rate : 115%
Having messed around a little bit with the game and having read a fair bit on the forums, I was expecting this to be pretty tough on the legs and not as much cardio as I wanted.
I was however pleasantly suprised with the first workout and it certaintly had me in a sweat. I suffer with minor lower backache which increasingly flares up when running so I did my running on a trampette which eliminates the negative effects of stress on the body.
I also tagged on the end a 28 minute custom workout which included all boxing, tennis and volleyball sessions into a small circuit. I will honestly never fork out money for a gym membership again because this gave me such a good workout I never remember having at the gym, allin the comfort of my living room.....
|||Workout 2
Projected Calories : 178.7
Actual Calories : 213.6
Burn Rate : 119%
I woke up this morning feeling a lot less aches than I thought I would. I was quite excited to get home from work to do a workout without the wife moaning cos she wanted to watch tele.
The workout started out pretty simple but about half way through I got my butt whipped by Fast Kick Ups. OMG my legs were burning like crazy and I it got to the stage where I thought I couldn't do any more kick ups but percevered through til the end. I remember at school doing this with my hands behind my back kicking my hands rather than *. I thought I'd go for the same but I didn't even feel a whisper of air brush my hands...... What's that all about? Am I really that inflexible or out of shape? lol
Looking forward to my rest day tomorrow.|||Hey, great start! You sound like you are really ready to get fit!
You do realize that more than likely you are burning more calories than EA actually calculates.
If you havent already and want to see where you truly stand try investing in a heart rate monitor.
Anyway, Congrats on your decision to get healthy and make changes to your body!
|||Hi tserenity03,
Thanks for your comments. I do realise the calorie count is going to be pretty inaccurate but it will be standard whether I do the exercise today, tomorrow or next week as it will caluclate calories against the same formula (weight pending of course). I decided to track my burn rate because it should tell me when I didnt workout as hard as I should have and will make me focus better next time I exercise. Theoretically in workout 2 I worked harder than in 1.
As to the hear rate monitor ... Unfortunately I'm in one of those 'unfit' shapes at present where pretty much any form of exercise gets my heart rate into the aerobic exercise bracket, therefore fat burning is kinda difficult at the moment. My resting heart rate (right now) is roughly 95 bpm. I believe I should aim to get a bit fitter first in order to lower my resting heart rate so that when I do exercise I can get the full benefits of being in the weight loss zone. (Obviously any form of exercise should contribute to weight loss but not to the same extent it could). I may consider a hear rate monitor in the future however.
I'm quite a heavy smoker at present but intend to stop in the next few weeks. Just about to order my NRT electronic cigarette which will hopefully help and make me less grumpy as the wife would say. haha
|||Well good luck with the smoking! Hopefully working out will help a bit with balancing out your stress levels from quitting! Just keep at it as you are definitely on the right track!|||Workout 3
Projected Calories : 129.5
Actual Calories : 160.7
Burn Rate : 124%
Workout 3 (Take Two)
Projected Calories : 129.5
Actual Calories : 147.3
Burn Rate : 114%
Workout 4
Projected Calories : 156.1
Actual Calories : 171.2
Burn Rate : 110%
Well, I'm really annoyed now and if you couldnt guess by the above it's because somehow I managed to do workout 3 twice (on seperate days.). As a result I did workout 4 straight after the 2nd run on workout 3. To make things even worse the resistance band snapped halfway through workout 4. Luckily I bought the accessory pack so had a spare and I also have a roll of green cliniband so able to make some spares. The green stuff is better than the red and I would definitely recommend getting some higher quality, higher resitance bands. I may even invest in some tubes if I can keep motivated.
So far I've missed 2 workout days so falling a little behind. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to catch up? ie training on a rest day - does it let you do the next workout on a rest day?
Thanks.|||Training on a rest day is fine. You will get a message about rest days. Just ignore it and do your workout. That is the only way to catch up on missed days, as the game won't let you do two workouts of the challenge in one day.|||Back on the horse, as I hope!
I think the game let me skip 6 days and continued me on the 2 workout days - 1 off until I did 20 workouts.
I'm on my 2nd 30 challenge, now on medium. Not tons (lol) to show for it, but I'm having so much fun I walk/runned around the park this morning at 6 am just so I could journal it.
I gotta look into your suggestion of more robust bands.
How are you?|||What I did when I missed a day. I reset the calendar on the Wii to teh previous day. Did the 30 day challenge workout for that day. After I was don, I then set the date ont eh Wii to the correct date.
This is in the Wii setup, not the calendar in the Active
