Rest Days

I started phase 1 of the 9 week program on Monday. It says to take a rest day after every 2 work out days, should I follow this advice? I have never worked out before trying to get in better shape, I'm a little sore from the first 2 days but not much. Instead of a rest day I was going to create a low intensity work out to do today, maybe start with the warm ups, do a little running against the trainer, dodge balls, soccer goal keeping and cool downs. Any advice?|||Each person is different and you want to make sure you don't overdo it.
I usually prefer to workout 5 times a week rather than the 4 in the game. For my 5th workout I try to do something with a fun side to it. Living in Iowa, with the weather finally (except not this week) getting nicer, I try to add something outside - biking on bike paths, walking, etc.
Otherwise, either custom workouts or preprogammed ones work great (or trainer generated). I've made a custom workout named for each day of the week which makes it easy to go in and just pick that day, a step aerobics one, a boxing one, and one called favorites. This seems to work well for me.
